Architecture

Braveheart has developed a snap-and-go cloud API to integrate Life Sensors and the cloud platform into your application. Based on open application standards for wearable devices, BraveHeart has done all the heavy lifting and integration logic so that all you need to worry about is your specific application. Life Sensors are the ultimate IoT platform for smart medicine. Plus, we’ve worried about security, scaling, cloud infrastructure, multiplexing sensors and data normalization for you.

Our Team

Mr. McCalmont is a leading executive in the computing and analytics industry who has made the jump to medical technology. As a serial entrepreneur, he has raised more than $75 million in venture capital for prior companies including: Avior Computing, Altaworks Corporation, and Net2Net Corporation. Mr. McCalmont’s past companies have led to successful IPOs and numerous successful mergers and acquisitions.  His past customer list includes United Healthcare, Blue Cross, Cigna, Wellpoint, Charles Schwab, IBM, Harris, AT&T, MCI, Sprint, and HP. Never afraid of a challenge, Mr. McCalmont started his career in applied cryptography, and he competes as an aerobatics pilot and flight instructor. Mr. McCalmont holds multiple patents across several industries.

Mr. MacEachern has an extraordinarily broad technology background covering all aspects of micro-electronics and computing platform solutions.  He holds multiple patents covering this breadth of technologies.  He specializes in microcontroller and RF technologies that have been applied to everything from miniature IoT devices through medical solutions, all the way up to heavy industrial transportation equipment.  As a key member of multiple start-ups, Mr. MacEachern has contributed in all aspects of engineering success by bringing multiple products from concept through production. Mr. MacEachern has held senior technical positions at Airvana, Cereva Networks, Proteon, and  Seranoa.

Mr. Beck is a seasoned software executive with many years of successfully delivering products to market for early stage and public companies.  He is responsible for all aspects of BraveHeart’s software implementation.  Mr. Beck has an outstanding record of managing multi-discipline teams in all phases of product development from concept thru architecture, design, implementation, testing, and product release.  He has a deep knowledge and expertise building software systems from embedded micro-controllers thru large-scale enterprise and telco-class server/cloud architectures.  Mr. Beck has been a founder and significant contributor to multiple startups throughout his career.  He has held senior technical positions at Net2Net, Altaworks, CrossComm, DataGeneral, and Seachange International.

Mr. Courtemanche has held senior technical positions at Avior, Altaworks, Net2Net, Symptelligence Medical, Workstation Solutions, and Wang Laboratories. His disciplines within the distributed computing environments range from Web Services, directory services, and relational database engines.  He has architected numerous large-scale, enterprise analytics applications and is an industry expert in Big Data and cloud computing.  Mr. Courtemanche has been a founding team member and a key contributor to multiple successful startups.  He holds many patents in the fields of distributed computing and performance management.

Ted McAleer is currently the VP of Business Development at BraveHeart. Prior to this role, he
was the Managing Director of PandoLabs, a business incubator based in Park City, Utah.  Previous to that, he was the first Executive Director of USTAR (Utah Science Technology and Research Initiative). He has also worked for SunGard SCT, Procter & Gamble, PepsiCo, and the US Army. He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School, a Master of Engineering from the University of Virginia and a BS in Engineering Management from the United States Military Academy at West Point. He volunteers his time as a Board Member or Trustee with the following organizations: Park City Angel Network, Mountain West Capital Network, Swaner EcoCenter,
and PCCAPS.

Dave Shimkus is currently Vice President, Operations at BraveHeart.  He is a 30-year veteran of the medical device industry in senior level operations, manufacturing, and research and development roles. In these capacities, Mr. Shimkus has been with Stryker, Boston Scientific, CR Bard, Ethicon Endo-Surgery (J&J), as well as with small, highly innovative start-ups and medium-size companies. Mr. Shimkus has built significant and highly successful organizations across manufacturing, global supply chain, research and development, logistics and regulatory/quality. He holds an MBA from Brigham Young University and a BS in Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point.

Mr. Sudabattula has over two decades of quality management and regulatory experience.  This encompassed multiple successful 510(k) submissions.  His background includes companies such as Becton Dickinson, Bard, and Icumedical.  Most recently he led a team to successful MDSAP audit certifications.  Mr. Sudabattula experience spans all aspects of manufacturing quality and regulatory (both FDA & EU) pertaining to invasive and non-invasive regulated devices.

Veteran computing industry executive and BraveHeart CEO Steve McCalmont first began experimenting with the concept of the BraveHeart Life Sensor™ in response to a family member’s struggles with heart disease. McCalmont envisioned a wireless, low-profile, everyday-wear patch that could gather biometric information such as heart-rate and EKG data — all with a self-contained patch not much bigger than a standard bandage. But in a twist of fate, it was his life that the prototype BraveHeart Life Sensor™ would soon save.

Mr. McCalmont was being treated for reflux due to intermittent chest discomfort that had no apparent link to exercise. A cardiac stress test revealed nothing. He was given a diagnosis of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD).

That weekend, the pain worsened, leading McCalmont to apply a prototype BraveHeart Life Sensor™ to monitor his heart. Checking the information captured by the patch, McCalmont could see abnormalities in his EKG. McCalmont showed the cardiologist the EKG data, which revealed an arrhythmia, leading the cardiologist to immediately admit him. #wearabletech
